Motion Control Most KMC engineering projects have involved motion control, including linear positioning, rotary cutting, fluid pumping, and pipette control. Many devices have multi-axis motion control and multiple mechanisms. These include rotary- and linear-drive mechanisms using direct belt, gear, and lead screw drives. We also have experience with microstepping drives for stepper motors for precise position control, DC brushless motors, and servo-motors.
Some projects use off-the-shelf electronic modules, but in most cases we design the motion control electronics utilizing embedded processors. These electronics packages control multiple motors and other types of I/O. Some systems use networks of simple custom-designed motion control boards that are slaves to a central processor.
